Expansion sleeves, also known as bushings or shaft sleeves, are common mechanical parts used on shafts in mechanical transmissions to protect the shaft and reduce wear. Specifically, the function of the expansion sleeve is to fill the gap between the shaft and the bearing hole in the machine base, thereby ensuring the stability and transmission performance of the shaft. There are generally several methods for installing expansion sleeves:

1. Cold Installation: Forcefully insert the sleeve into the sleeve. This method is generally suitable for long sleeves.

2. Hot Installation: Preheat the sleeve to a certain temperature before inserting it into the shaft hole. The sleeve will automatically expand and tighten after cooling.

3. Extrusion Method: Create a wedge-shaped groove at a certain angle, and press the sleeve into the groove to achieve expansion and tightening.

 

Common Materials for Expansion Sleeves
Expansion sleeves are generally made of cast iron, copper alloys, copper-aluminum alloys, steel, etc. The specific material selection depends on the usage environment and requirements. Generally, cast iron expansion sleeves are suitable for high-speed, high-load, heavy-duty, and large machinery, possessing high tensile strength and thermal stability; copper alloy expansion sleeves are suitable for medium-to-high-speed, low-load machinery, offering good wear resistance and thermal conductivity; copper-aluminum alloy expansion sleeves are suitable for high-speed, low-load, high-temperature machinery and low-speed, high-load, high-temperature machinery; steel expansion sleeves are suitable for applications requiring high precision and torque, exhibiting high strength and hardness.
