Function and Working Principle of Expansion Sleeves

Expansion sleeves achieve a keyless connection between the shaft and hub through mechanical expansion force. Their core components include an inner sleeve, an outer sleeve, and an expansion ring.

When the bolts are tightened, the expansion ring is subjected to radial compression, generating a radial displacement of 0.05-0.1 mm, creating a contact pressure of up to 500-800 N/mm², achieving an interference fit between the shaft and hub. This structure can transmit torque of 300-2000 N·m, with an axial load capacity of 50-200 kN, and requires a shaft surface roughness of only Ra1.6-3.2 μm.

Its advantages include installation time being only 1/3 that of conventional keyed connections, and positioning accuracy reaching 0.02 mm, making it particularly suitable for high-precision applications such as automotive transmissions (6000 rpm) and aero-engines (operating temperatures -60~300℃).

Botou Mingtong Transmission Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. offers tensioning sleeves in various specifications and supports non-standard customization services. Its products have been successfully applied in scenarios such as CNC machine tool spindle connections.
